Mariam Mekhael, Youth Education Manager

Mariam graduated from St. Olaf College with three degrees - Race and Ethnic Studies, Family Studies, Architecture, and a minor in Art. Her professional goal is to help refugee youth feel welcome through all of the new phases of their adjustment to life here. She is originally from Iraq, but left when she was six years old. After living in Jordan and Egypt, her family was resettled to Chicago through the U.S. Refugee Program in 2009. She is the Youth Education Manager for SCN where she manages the Afterschool Program and provides direct assistance to families through Education Case Management. Mariam supports students in elementary, middle, and high school.
